We’re delighted to announce the return of live shows at ACT and our thrilling new season of plays.

Our 2022 season was curated in passionate collaboration with the artists from the Core Company — listening to our community, thinking about our audience, challenging the stories we tell and how we will tell them. It has been an incredible journey.

Our season begins in January with the world premiere of Hotter than Egypt. The Thin Place makes its West Coast premiere in March and we close with the highly anticipated and Tony-nominated Sweat in May.

You won’t want to miss a beat in this very special season.

Hotter Than Egypt by Yussef El Guindi

January 28-February 20, 2022

ACT proudly presents its 50th world premiere by gifted Core Company member and Seattle’s own Yussef El Guindi — Hotter than Egypt, a poignant play about personal revelation set against the backdrop of the Egyptian revolution. An American couple travel to Cairo for their anniversary and become entangled with their newly engaged Egyptian guides. Cultures collide, yet dreams align: in this passionate play about love, everyone’s searching for that idyllic place where personal freedom and deep commitment can coexist. A vivid new work from the acclaimed author of Pilgrims Musa and Sheri in the New World, Ramayana (co-adaptor), Threesome, and People of The Book.

The Thin Place by Lucas Hnath

March 18-April 10, 2022

Can we talk with the dead? Communicate with loved ones we’ve lost? In this mesmerizing new play by Obie Award-winner Lucas Hnath, Linda promises that you can. If you listen — really listen — she can take you to the thin place, the fragile boundary between our world and the next. Perhaps it’s merely a cunning illusion that awakens our deepest desires, but then again so is this spine-tingling show.

“Haunting! Compelling and delicious! Hnath’s cunning new ghost story, about a psychic and her client, is a twisty yarn that won’t unravel.”

New York Times

Sweat by Lynn Nottage

April 29-May 22, 2022

This powerful Pulitzer Prize-winning play takes us to the forgotten heart of America, where old friends struggle to survive a fraying economy. For decades, they’ve shared secrets and laughs on the factory floor. Now layoffs pit them against one another as inequities of race and class fan the flames. MacArthur genius Lynn Nottage infuses this searing script with her trademark mix of compassion, humor, and suspense. It’s explosive drama: made in America.

“Utterly riveting! Leaves you breathless! A raw, prescient portrait of the American working class.”
