Welcome Home to ACT Theatre

Our 2022 Season Is Here!

Make A Date For Live Contemporary Theatre Right in the Heart Of Downtown Seattle.

Our 2022 season was curated in passionate collaboration with the artists from the Core Company — listening to our community, thinking about our audience, challenging the stories we tell and how we will tell them. It has been an incredible journey.

Hotter Than Egypt by Yussef El Guindi

January 28-February 20, 2022

WORLD PREMIERE!

How far do you have to go to find yourself?

ACT in association with Marin Theatre Company proudly presents Hotter than Egypt, ACT’s 50th World Premiere by Core Company artist and acclaimed Seattle playwright Yussef El Guindi. Hotter than Egypt is a poignant play about personal revelation. Paul and Jean, an American couple, travel to Cairo for their 24th wedding anniversary. Long-dormant troubles within the marriage start to percolate, and their two Egyptian tour guides, newly engaged Maha and Seif, become drawn into the crisis. This dramedy, set in the heat of Cairo, explores the uneven power dynamics between these Western tourists and the locals. Dreams and relationships are put to the test when old connections lead to new temptations. Hotter than Egypt, recently workshopped through the ACT Local program, is a vivid new work from the audience favorite and award-winning author of Threesome, Ramayana, and People of the Book.

The Thin Place by Lucas Hnath

March 18-April 10, 2022

WEST COAST PREMIERE!

Can we talk with the dead? Communicate with loved ones we’ve lost? In this mesmerizing new play by Obie Award-winner Lucas Hnath, Linda promises that you can. If you listen — really listen — she can take you to the thin place, the fragile boundary between our world and the next. Perhaps it’s merely a cunning illusion that awakens our deepest desires, but then again so is this spine-tingling show.

“Haunting! Compelling and delicious! Hnath’s cunning new ghost story, about a psychic and her client, is a twisty yarn that won’t unravel.”

Sweat by Lynn Nottage

April 29-May 22, 2022

This powerful Pulitzer Prize-winning play takes us to the forgotten heart of America, where old friends struggle to survive a fraying economy. For decades, they’ve shared secrets and laughs on the factory floor. Now layoffs pit them against one another as inequities of race and class fan the flames. MacArthur genius Lynn Nottage infuses this searing script with her trademark mix of compassion, humor, and suspense. It’s explosive drama: made in America.

“Utterly riveting! Leaves you breathless! A raw, prescient portrait of the American working class.”

2022 Season Details

Hotter Than Egypt by Yussef El Guindi, January 28-February 20, 2022

The Thin Place by Lucas Hnath, March 18-April 10, 2022

Sweat by Lynn Nottage, April 29-May 22, 2022

We are eager to get back onstage and have you in the audience — so this season may be shorter than usual, but it still offers top-notch talent telling timely, theatrical tales. We are planning a full season for 2022-2023 and will be in touch early next year with details about that particular season.  Going forward, our traditional seasons will be in alignment with the schedules of most of the other performing arts venues in town, which is typically Fall through Early Summer, allowing our staff and audience to enjoy the Seattle summer.
The three plays for this season will be performed in The Allen Theatre.  When we return to a traditional full season the plays will be split again between both The Allen and The Falls. Please rest assured that your series seat location for The Falls will be the same as you had been assigned for the 2020 season even though you won’t be using those seats for our short season.
This season, we have the three-show Mainstage package for you. We expect that more package options will return in the future, but for now we encourage you to try a subscription — because it delivers the savings, the benefits, and the flexibility you enjoyed with a pass.  As we are no longer producing the ACTLab second stage performances, we have decided to retire our ACTPass program.

COVID and Safety

Arrive assured — your safety is our top priority. ACT Theatre will rigorously follow all health and safety guidelines as identified by the CDC, regional government entities and our union partners regarding COVID-19 protocols including vaccination status, masks and cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of our audience, artists, production crew and staff. Please be sure to read the know-before-you-go emails and check our website before each performance for the most current updates and information.

The 2022 season will be our first in-person season since the COVID pandemic. We return to the stage with our beloved holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, beginning December 7, 2021. ACT has joined Seattle area performing arts organizations including the Seattle Symphony, The 5th Avenue Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Opera, Seattle Rep and Village Theatre in requiring masking and vaccinations or negative COVID-19 testing to ensure a safe and successful return of Seattle area arts and live performances.

Safety precautions including ventilation and janitorial enhancements for A Christmas Carol in December and performances in 2022 will be announced soon. ACT’s policies and procedures will continue to evolve based on local, regional, and national health recommendations. The safety of our artists, audience and staff is always of primary concern.

Masks will be required of all audience members unless eating or drinking.

At this time our building downtown is still closed due to the pandemic.  We hope to resume public hours later in the fall and will alert our patrons when we can assist you face to face!  We encourage you to renew online and as a thank you the $15 subscription handling fee will be waived.  Should you choose to renew by phone or mail the handling fee will be applied.

Benefits of Subscribing

Absolutely!  You’ll save up to 20% off of single tickets and have first access to the best seats in the house.

Flexibility

Your best bet for flexibility and price is always a subscription! Season ticket holders can exchange their tickets for any other performance of the same play.  There is no limit to how many times you can exchange within a performance run, we realize that personal calendars change quickly these days! As different days of the week have different price points, there may be an upgrade in cost should you exchange into a performance that is not your regular day.  Downgrades in cost are not refunded.  You can request exchanges through our website, by phone and email.

You will be able to start making exchanges once we have processed all the renewals and provided you with your tickets.  We don’t have a specific date at this time but estimate that it will be possible to start doing exchanges in November.

We realize that the pandemic has changed the landscape of making plans and want you to have confidence that we will always put your health and wellbeing first. All of our shows have flexible ticket exchange and refund policies.   If you or any of your party feel unwell or uncomfortable attending a performance for any reason (or needs to self-isolate), you can request to exchange your tickets for another performance, receive a gift certificate equal to the face value of your ticket, donate the value of your ticket back to ACT for a tax receipt or initiate a refund up to four (4) hours before your scheduled performance.

For more details, see our COVID policies page.

Seating

Your series seats are in the same location for every performance.  Should you need to exchange to a different date for one of the performances we will do our best to get you as close as possible to your series location but cannot guarantee that it will be the same.  When you renew each season, you are guaranteed of the exact same seat location as long as you keep the exact same series (in that you attend on the same day of the week at the same time).

For many years we have used price zones for our single ticket buyers and decided to offer that same benefit to subscribers so that there is more flexibility in pricing based on the popularity of certain seat locations.  Subscription tickets will now fall into either ‘Prime’ or ‘Standard’ zones.  Prime seats are more in demand and thus have a higher price point.

Prime seating encompasses the first three rows as well as the pair of seats on each outside aisle.  These are the most requested locations and to be in sync with industry standards we priced the Prime seats at a higher price point.  Standard seats are still wonderful locations and a great value!

We have a variety of accessible seating options throughout the theater including the ability to remove a standard theater seat so that a wheelchair can be accommodated in the same space.  Please contact the Ticket Office for assistance in finding the best fit for your situation.

If you requested a seat or series change, we will be processing those by hand in late October after all non-renewed seats have been dropped.  This will give you more flexibility to have the best seats possible.

We want to make sure you enjoy all aspects of attending live theatre with us! Should you wish to change your location for the remaining plays please contact our Ticket Office and they will do their best to find a better fit for you.

Payment Options

Did you convert the value of your 2020 cancelled season tickets into a gift certificate or receive a monetary gift certificate from a friend?  Either way, you can apply that balance to your renewal.  If you do not have a record of your gift certificate number and amount, please feel free to reach out to the Ticket Office for that information.  When renewing online the certificate number must be entered before final payment for the credit to be applied.

We most certainly do.  You can conveniently split your subscription price into two different payments if paying with a credit card over the phone. It’s flexible and free—no interest or additional service charges. The first payment will be charged the day you renew and the second payment will be automatically charged in October. Payment plans may only be set up using a credit or debit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Payments must be done using the same credit card for all transactions. The card must be valid through one month past the last scheduled payment.  You will receive your season tickets after the final payment.

There sure is and we encourage you to take advantage of it!  If you renew online the handling fee will be waived as a thank you.  We are still operating with a reduced staff and online renewals will help us greatly with processing the large volume of renewals.

Ticket Delivery

We are currently looking into digital, contactless ticketing options in which your ticket would be on your phone and scanned at the door through that format.  We realize that there is not one size fits all with technology so will still have the option of traditional paper tickets for those who request them.   Once we have more information about the ticket options and distribution, we will let you know as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience in the interim!

Online Content

At this time, we do not plan on having streaming capability for the three Mainstage shows.

A Christmas Carol / Other Non-Subscription Productions

We are very happy to say a resounding yes!  We return to the stage with our beloved holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, beginning December 7, 2021 and running through December 26, 2021.  As a thank you to renewing subscribers who have supported us throughout the past challenging months and to new subscribers joining us, you will receive a generous 25% discount on your A Christmas Carol tickets and will be able to choose your own seats.  Thank you!

At the current time, we are thrilled to still be working with many artistic partners in Seattle on various projects and look forward to expanding these partnerships. While we are no longer presenting the ACTLab, we are excited for the future of ACT as a home for the broader artistic community in Seattle.
