Education

ACT Theatre strives to make high quality arts experiences accessible for youth in their schools, in the theatre, and beyond. ACT’s education programs reflect our commitment to the community as we continually explore ways to amplify young voices and support creative aspirations. ACT’s education programs play a key role in the pursuit of new art, new thought, and a higher degree of artistic excellence.

“ACT has shown me how to take an idea and make a world.”

Ellie Drayton, Seattle Girls' School

ACT’s flagship education program sends professional playwright teaching artists to local schools for 10 weeks. ACT’s Young Playwright Program equips participants with tools for creative self expression, self-confidence, and the sense that their ideas matter.

Starting in December, a panel of professional artists reads all the student plays created during the Young Playwrights Program. After evaluating each play on its merits, we select eight outstanding plays to feature in professionally staged readings at ACT in the annual Young Playwrights Festival.
